About Us

Feed the hungry is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food across the Ireland with the help of organisations and individuals. We also respond with emergency food and relief during disasters.

Over 85% of the food distributed by us in "Feed the hungry" network is donated by the public, that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to provide the needy. We always welcome donations and promise to use them to provide help to people in crisis.

We strive to ensure aid is efficiently and effectively deployed to and received by communities when it is needed most.Occasionally we send food to other nearby foodbanks to support their work particularly if they experience shortages. This ensures your donations go to help people wherever they are.

Hunger doesn’t have to exist, let’s end it together.

The Problem

In the first study of its kind, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) calculated that the world’s population wastes 1.3 billion tons of food per year. That food waste also results in 3.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere. Food waste also costs the world $750 billion annually. The United States alone wastes $161 billion a year. Another study calculated that $265 billion per year would end world poverty and hunger by 2030.Reducing food waste could potentially prevent climate change and help end global poverty.

"Globally 1,300,00,00 tonnes of food is wasted per year.
Meanwhile one in 7 people experience food poverty."

Hunger is also a cause of poverty, and thus of hunger, in a cyclical relationship. By causing poor health, small body size, low levels of energy and reductions in mental functioning, hunger can lead to even greater poverty by reducing people’s ability to work and learn, thus leading to even greater hunger. Not only does reducing food waste affect the economy and environment, but it also has a positive social impact.
